With each new year comes a fresh perspective on home decor. Certain trends begin to exit, making space for new trends to be brought to light. 2024 saw a sort of transition stage, where the seeds were being laid to move from the minimal, “vanilla” aesthetic that began in 2020 to something far more stimulating.

With an endless amount of inspiration everywhere, people were bound to gravitate towards creating spaces that feel like a proper representation of them. For so long society has been stuck in this trend of building and designing minimalistic style interiors, no matter the person or the location of the project. However, with the new year that is gone with the wind. People want their homes to tell a story and to be a reflection of their values. No matter how colorful that may be or which aesthetics they choose to include, the goal is to create an environment that is as unique as the person residing within its walls.

Out: Plain White Walls
In: Saturated Colors
Plain white walls will soon be a thing of the past as we embrace adding personality to our spaces. While neutral, these stark backgrounds are just that, empty and a blank canvas in comparison to the rainbow of colors available. Infusing a space with rich and vibrant colors is a great way to express individuality and create a space unique to its inhabitants. I predict the colors we will see used in 2025 will be rich tones, such as emerald greens and eggplant hues.

In: Rococo Aesthetic / Romanticism
The Rococo Revival (as dubbed by Pinterest Predicts 2025) has been impending on society in all areas, from interiors to fashion to weddings and beyond. It embodies an aura of softness and romance mixed with whimsy and playfulness, all done in an opulent manner. This marks a shift from the glitz of Art Deco and its showy characteristics. Rococo is more about extra frills and ornate details, some bits to make life a little bit more fun and romantic. Think wall paneling, floral motifs, curving forms, and intricate moldings.

Out: Vanilla Boucle
In: Pattern Layering
We were all witness to the overtaking of boucle in its creamy glory. For a while it seemed that it had overtaken every home furniture and accessory selection. While boucle does hold a special place in my heart, and I think it will remain a popular choice for quite some time, the focus is beginning to shift. Patterns are making their comeback, from large geometric prints to dainty florals. This aligns perfectly with creating an individualistic space because no matter the desired aesthetic, there are a multitude of patterns that can be included. Whether present in larger pieces of furniture or small accent pieces, the art of layering patterns is something that is going to take precedence in 2025.
